The day began with Susan giving us the scoop. She read off her record, keeping us in the loop. Debbie showered us with knowledge of successful summaries. We created topic sentences and discussed important strategies. “My teacher has bullets!?!” and Hoose pronounced “like panty hose?” “That’s magic!” was shouted about the spray on adhesive that held what we composed. That spray on glue was such a hit. “I can bedazzle things! ... I want that s&#@!” As I ear hustled throughout the day, “I have cramps!” “It’s medication time!” and “It’s like stirrups!” were just a few things people had to say. Next up was Kim, who I just found out knows a lot about pigs. She used “boo-boo tape” which we all now totally dig. “You would’ve been the mean girl! I would be the goodie two-shoes!” Said Kathee, referring to the comments Kristie would choose. Both demo lessons were fun, creative, and insightful. Our first from the elementary level, filled with creativity - not rules. Then in our reading groups we discussed Spandel’s article. “Students don’t know what imagination is!” appears to be something we must tackle. We decided that assessment is difficult when allowing for freedom in writing. More people are speaking now, it must be less frightening. That brings us to Jessica, our mugging of the day. She’s considerate, quiet, and a leader in her own way! So that is the record for July 12, 2011. It’s scary that we only have six days left, not seven!
